My Passion for Storytelling
My Passion for Storytelling
Michael Calcagno
Television broadcast reporter Michael Calcagno has more than four years experience shooting, editing, writing and reporting online and on-air.
Broadcasting has always been my passion. When I was young I would watch the local news and look up to the reporter in the field. That feeling stuck with me as I grew up and reported for my high school newspaper and interned at the community newspaper during the summers. I even borrowed my aunt’s handycam to shoot my own news reports. Sorry to say — I don’t think those made my reel.
At college the natural choice was journalism. Loving my beautiful home state of Oregon, the University of Oregon in Eugene was just as fitting.
At Oregon I learned that being able to tell someone’s story clearly and accurately is the most important thing journalists do. The need for accurate and concise communication and reporting cannot be overlooked or undervalued. During this difficult time of dropping revenue and increased costs in the news media, hard-working and skillful journalists will excel — and I believe that I am one of these journalists.
I feel my energy, knowledge of new media and intense drive to always learn separate me from the crowd and make me a valuable asset to any news organization. My tenacity, innovation and ambition are traits I continue to develop as I grow as a journalist and learn all I can from the talented producers, anchors and photographers I am privileged to work with.
